Our Adventure into the Maze

Utah has some of the most remote area in the lower 48 and we wanted to try to experience those areas while on our trip through the state. One of the very remotest areas is The Maze district of Canyonlands National Park. When I think of remoteness, I don’t usually think of National Parks since they are very popular but The Maze District in Canyonlands is different. Its separated from the more popular areas in Canyonlands (Island in the Sky and The Needles districts) by the Colorado River and the Green River. For example, from Moab which is were the main entrance to Canyonlands is, it is a minimum of a 5 hour drive just the the entrance of The Maze and then anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours to reach your destination in the Maze.

We were in Hanksville UT which is the closest “town” to the The Maze and we were still 2 hours from the Ranger Station and another hour just to the park bounday, all on high clearance 4x4 roads. We got permits to camp for 3 nights at the Maze Overlook campsite and did an epic hike deep into the Maze.

This time we thought we’d mix it up a bit and try to make a Youtube video. Unfortunately, we thought of this after we started the trip and had no script or plan and only our iPhones to record it. You’ll see that is is very poorly produced, the audio sucks, it looks like it was edited by a 6 year old and the actors couldn’t make it into their elementary school play but here it is anyway. Enjoy…..
